Somatic therapy is body focused approach to mental health therapy, sometimes called a “bottom-up” method of therapy, in contrast to more intellectual, or cognitive (talk-based) approaches. Somatic therapy centers the relationship between the mind and body, using sensation or physical movement to attune to communication from the body, and aid in healing trauma that may be stored beyond conscious awareness. Somatic Therapy also aids in embodiment, creating safety in the body in order to repair and restore the relationship between the mind and body.
